GoWin, the Golist, Qsl Manager Search Program

Win95/98/ME/2000/NT/XP

GOWIN Basics:

GoWin provides fast and easy access to a large and accurate QSL Manager Database.  Simply type in the callsign that you
wish to lookup.  If QSL information is located in the database, it will immediately be displayed in the larger window below
the callsign entry window.  Need more information?  GoWin  also provides interface with popular callsign databases, and with
some Internet-based callsign and DX services...

NEW in Version 2.00:

1.  Use ESC key on keyboard to clear without having to click

    mouse on "Clear" button.

2.  Resize the GoWin window by dragging on corner of the window.

GoWin remembers last size and position too!

3.  Buttons for web site download of data files, and upload of

new QSL Manager info for GoWin.

Callsign Databases:

GoWin can interface with the "Buckmaster HamCall", "Radio Amateur Callbook", or "QRZ! Ham Radio" callsign databases to provide you with mailing address information.   To prepare GoWin  to do this, you simply specify which callsign database you want to use, and the disk drive (or CD-ROM drive) where it is located.

To setup GoWin  to access a callsign database, select the GoWin  menu for "Options", and select the "Callsign Database Type" menu item.  Click on the setting for "Buckmaster HamCall", "Radio Amateur Callbook", or "QRZ! Ham Radio" so that a checkmark appears next to it.  Click on the "OK" button once you have the correct callsign database selected.  Next, select the GoWin  menu for "Options" again, and choose the "Disk Drive for Database" item. Click on the drive letter where your callsign database is installed, and finally, click on "OK".  These settings are saved so that you only have to enter them once.

Once GoWin  is setup, the callsign database is automatically accessed to provide additional information each time you type a callsign.  If the GoWin  QSL Manager database locates a single manager's callsign for the DX station you type, GoWin  will then automatically lookup the manager's callsign in the callsign database.  If no manager is located, GoWin  will access the callsign database and return a direct mailing address.  When multiple records are displayed for a DX callsign then Call book look up is NOT performed.  You can copy and paste from the manager window any call sign desired and paste it in the DX window and the call book will search and display the address information for that call sign.  This method can be repeated as desired for the multiple line records.

"Output" to a Text File:

GoWin  provides a way to send all the information displayed to a text file, where you can edit, print, and save it as needed.  The "Output" button on GoWin  will become available as there is any information displayed in the QSL Manager window.  When you click on "Output", GoWin  will create a text file called LABEL.TXT, and display it in your favorite editor.  From there, you can "Save As" to keep it in a different text file, or "Print" to send it to your printer.  Each time you click on "Output", GoWin  will place the new information at the bottom of the existing LABEL.TXT file.  If the LABEL.TXT file still exists when you exit GoWin , the program will ask if you want to delete the file.   If you answer "NO", then GoWin  will continue adding to the file the next time you run GoWin .

"Cleanup":

Each time you update your QSL Manager database, a new additional file is installed on your hard drive.  If you want to perform some "housekeeping" to delete the old, unused database files, you can do so easily and safely from GoWin .  Just click on the "File" menu, and then click on "Cleanup Files".  It's OK to do this anytime you want; GoWin  will not remove the latest database file.

"Web Site Manager Updates":

"Mgr Update" can be used anytime you wish to contribute an updated or new QSL Manager to GOWIN.  Just click on the button to be directed to the GOLIST web site and follow the prompts to supply new QSL Manager information.  Your input will be used to update the database and be included in future updates.

"Web Site Database Downloads":

"Download" may be selected to take you directly to the login screen for the subscribers download area. Here you may obtain the latest GOLIST data files and DX ALERT from the web site .  You'll be prompted for your username and password in order to receive the update.  The GOLIST data files and DX ALERT are updated WEEKLY.

Internet Services:

GoWin  gives you access to several helpful Internet services. (Of course, your PC must be connected to the Internet in order for these services to be used).  The most obvious Internet service is the "GOSEARCH" button.  If a callsign is entered in GoWin , you can click the "GOSEARCH" button to get the latest QSL Manager information from the www.golist.net web service.  GOSEARCH may contain information on DX stations that do not appear in the latest Weekly Golist database update.

Other Internet services are provided on the GoWin "Links" menu.
These include:

 - DX Alert, another www.golist.net service providing the very latest DX activity reports.
 - PathFinder, another source for QSL Manager info on  the present callsign.
 - 425 DX News.  Latest available DX information.
 - GreyLine, propogation and other helpful DX info.
 - Qsl Bureau, a service of GOLIST/ARRL providing the latest IARU qsl bureau addresses and information.

Just select any of these menu items and your Internet browser will be launched and put you onto the web sites automatically.

Help:

Besides this help file under the "Help", "Contents" menu, there are also menu items to contact K1XN by E-mail ("Support"), and to order or renew QSL Manager Database services from the web site www.golist.net ("Order / Renew").
